MANSEHRA, June 20: The people of Puttan area and Wapda are at odds over the laying of transmission line from the site of Dubair Khawar hydropower project in Kohistan to the national grid station.
A jirga was convened on June 10 to settle the dispute but it was rescheduled to take place on June 20 (Thursday) due to absence of members of the national and provincial assemblies from Mansehra district.
However, the jirga didn’t happen on Thursday, too, as lawmakers didn’t show up again.
Local people and the district administration officials were in attendance.
Last month, Puttan Qaumi Islahi Committee, a representative body of the local residents, had threatened to block installation of electric supply line if four megawatts of electricity wasn’t provided to Kohistan directly from local grid station and free of charge.
The district administration stepped in and convened the jirga to settle the dispute but the local lawmakers’ failure to turn up has led to suspension of work on the laying of transmission line.
Deputy commissioner of Kohistan Aqal Badshah has already declared that the government couldn’t supply free electricity to Kohistan.
BODY FOUND: An unidentified man’s mutilated body was found in Gatti Dass area of Kaghan valley on Thursday.
